Log homes have served us well in the past and they continue to offer a durable, sustainable, and warm alternative to typical frame housing. With more options than Laura Ingells Wilder would have imagined, a log home is not a childish dream, but a viable — even pioneering — choice in home construction.
We recommend Colonial Structures. Colonial Structures has built some of the finest log homes around, including NASCAR Winston Cup Champion, Dale Earnhardt's 7,000 square foot home in Mooresville, North Carolina, several condominiums, a restaurant and many residential homes. From an 18,350 square foot Catholic church in Maryland to playhouses and dog houses; they build them all! If you can dream it, they can build it!
Cedar Log Homes: 30% More Energy Efficient Than A Framed House . . .
And 100% More Charming
Colonial Structures' homes are built entirely from cedar. Cedar has the highest insulating qualities of any wood; nearly twice that of the highest rated pine log. Also, the National Bureau of Standards has issued a report, which determined that log homes are up to 30% more energy efficient than a framed house due to the high thermal mass of wood. In the winter, the wood absorbs heat on the inside of the house and radiates it back into the room when the temperature drops. So, a cedar log home is a great energy efficient choice. Also, even un-treated, our cedar logs have are extremely resistant to insects, decay and shrinking – more so than any other wood.
