Custom decks can really extend the use of your outdoor space. From grilling, having a water balloon fight or just relaxing with your friends, custom decks are a must-have addition to any home. There are a few options to look at when deciding to build a custom deck. We are going to discuss the top three choices for deck materials.

1.    Pressure treated wood – A pressure treated wood deck is made of wood that has been pressure treated to withstand the outside elements better than non-pressure treated wood. They are better protected against damage from termites and fungus. Custom decks made from pressure treated wood are less expensive than other options and will require some maintenance over the years.

2.    Vinyl decking – A vinyl deck is made of plastic vinyl that is lightweight and easy to install. There is no need for sanding or staining as the vinyl comes in various colors. Some nice benefits to vinyl decking are that the deck will not get hot from the sun, splinter or fade. Custom decks made from vinyl are very attractive and last many years.

3.    Composite decking – Composite decks are very low maintenance and are made from recycled wood and plastic. You won’t need to worry about getting splinters while walking barefoot, as these decks won’t crack or split.  There are two types of composite decking options:

a.    Standard – Made from equal parts of recycled wood and plastic.
b.    Capped – Made with an extra layer or “cap” for added protection from the elements.
